If you wish to use Suitcase II™ or MasterJuggler to install ExpertWriter™ under System 7, use the EW System 6 Install file, and install the DA as per Suitcase II™ or MasterJuggler™’s instructions
ExpertWriter™ seems to have some difficulty with a shareware utility called Trash Alias. Please make sure to use Trash Alias version 1.1.1 or later. These can be obtained on a local bulletin board, from your local Macintosh Users Group, or from one of the major on-line services.
These problems concern installing the ExpertWriter Desk Accessory. If you do not use Trash Alias, but are having problems installing ExpertWriter under System 7, re-boot the machine and hold down the SHIFT key until the Welcome to Macintosh screen appears stating “Extensions Off.” After ExpertWriter has been installed, you can re-boot again and return to normal usage of your machine.
There is a shareware extension called Escapade which redirects command keys within a dialog. This extension can interfere with the pasting of graphics into the Envelope Editing window. To paste a graphics onto the envelope with Escapade installed, use Command-Shift-V for paste rather than Command-V.
Envelope printing can be a process of trial and error. We have tried to use ExpertWriter with as many printers as possible, but all of them have differences. The first time you try to print envelopes we suggest that you experiment on several scrap envelopes until you've found the proper settings for your particular printer. You can then save these settings as a part of your stationary files, and it will print that way automatically every time you use stationary.
This is especially true of the various laser and inkjet printers. Many use Apple's generic printer drivers, but feed the envelope from a different position, or have different printable areas. Experimentation is the key here, and the following are some things you can try:
1) Try different envelope feed orientations: Left, Center, Right. For example, the ImageWriter II works best with the Center setting. The DeskWriters prefer Right Alignment.
2) If the Bar Code or lower Message are not printing in the #10 envelope (4.1 x9.5) try setting a custom envelope size until the information prints.. (such as 3.5 x 9.5).
3) Some printers which feed the envelope on the Left side of the manual feeder will not be able to print the bar code on the bottom of the envelope due to printable area limitations. If this seems to be the case on your particular printer, try printing the Bar Code above the recipients name and address.
Hewlett-Packard DeskWriter C printers. If you are printing items from ExpertWriter containing color graphics, the DeskWriter C printer, and other printers of this type, may run out of available memory to process the image.
